So I kinda fell off the face of the earth during finals week.

I'm alive. hooray. :)

I needed a vacation... I kinda got it... but then I dove into work so it didn't work out all that well. I had a week off from Stewart's... but the money is good, so I can't complain... that much...

I started subing in my old district... Mostly Elementary with a few middle school classes... It's re-affirming that I want to work with middle school. K and first graders are cute... but I've had enough of the "he said this!" "she cut me in line!" "We're not supposed to be doing that!" "That book has a butt, it's inappropriate!" *sigh* the fourth graders were a blessing... and the fifth graders in the middle school were good kids and I could handle those guys. Whatever. I can deal with them for a while, but I feel like I couln't have my own class of k-2 for the entire day.

For example... I was in first grade the other day. One kid handed me his pencil in the middle of the lesson. 'can you sharpen my pencil?' So I did using the electric sharpener. A little while later another kid came up to me and asked to sharpen his pencil. I asked 'do i need to do it or can you do it?' he thought for a minute...

'I can do it.'

So he sharpens his pencil. Suddenly, there's a rush of kids needing to sharpen their pencil. While they're all waiting in line, someone comes to me and says 'we're not allowed to use the pencil sharpener! you're supposed to do it for us!'

We had a nice talk about abusing the substitute teacher and how rude it is to try and get away with things.

*sigh*

They're good kids, they really are... they're just getting excited about summer vacation and being out of school for a few months. I have a feeling it will be a lot better when I finally have a class of my own and I can set my own rules and follow them.

That's what I hate about subing... They hand you the sub folder, the key to the room and a badge that hangs around your neck saying you're a sub (if you're lucky...) BUT! You hardly have any direction as to what the kids can and can't do. I mean there are things like raising your hand and listening... but I didn't know they couldn't use the sharpener. And I have no idea how the good behavior light system works (there are three colors, green, yellow, and red. when they do something wrong they go from green to yellow. they can work their way back from yellow... but not from red. I've figured it out... luckily, I'm only had to threaten... i'm probably going to actually follow through next time I'm subing with the the kinders.

I'm making this sound like it's the most horrible thing ever... it really isn't... I've meet a lot of good kids and actually helped them make connections. Those ah ha moments really are awesome. It make me feel like I could actually do this for a living. :) I just need middle schoolers.

so... I've been subing in the mornings and afternoons... then going to stewart's to close. it's been a busy few weeks. I'm going to be SUPER glad when school is over. Like. Whoa.

But I'm going to nap for a bit before stewart's at five. Closing tonight. Then get up and do it allllll over again. *sigh*

First, let me say that I got to see the New Star Trek Movie at midnight last night. I only just yesterday realized that it wasn't the midnight showing on thursday before it opened on friday because it technically opened on thursday... But it was an 11:59 showing so it FELT like a midnight showing. :)

and I got to see it in IMAX! it was my first feature film in IMAX and the screen was ginormous!! But it was a great movie! Gene was probably rolling in his grave with a few facts... but they did it in a way so that it was explained why... I won't say anything cause I don't want to spoil anything... but I defiantely was pleased. :)

jakmdajkf!! AND! I totally got a star trek glass from Burger King. :) There are four in the collection, so I'm hoping for the other three (or at least the spock one ;)) but if it doesn't happen I at least have one, which is good. :)

I found out yesterday that one of my favorite Stewart's Regulars, Fred, died. He had all sorts of health problems, especially toward the end... but he was such a character. He had so many stories, and just a funny personality. I'm going to miss him.

maybe it's not that amazingly epic, but I'm still feeling pretty pumped right now.

Sunday, our music director for the musical decided that we could have a pit of all students for the show. Before we were going to be using a programmed CD.

By monday night we got together a group of musicians from the music department. We had a flute, clarinet, saxahone, bass, and at least one (if not two) percussionists.

However. I could NOT get a pianist.

They were kinda mad because I didn't get a pianst... but I had less than 24 hours.

So today I asked Bonnie Anderson who is part of the piano faculty who would be good. She gave me a student or two, but suggested to get in touch with her that I could go up to the piano ensemble and try and recuit a student to be our pianist.

I struck gold!

WE HAVE A PIANIST!

I feel accomplished. :)

now to finish my paper for global due in two hours. (at least I just have to do some finishing up on it!).

So it's been quite some time since I've updated anything actually about my life. I'm such a slacker.

So for those who haven't already heard we definately have a musical. (for those who didn't know, we were having technical difficulties with the rights...) But we are DEFINATELY doing "Once on this island." It's a Carribean Romeo and Juliet meets The Little Mermaid. I know what you're thinking... and believe me, I thought the same thing. But in reality, it's actually really catchy. the music has a very african flavor to it. It's almost entirely sung, making it an operetta... which I've never done before! i'm super excited about that.

So we've only been in rehearsal for a week and we're doing really well. we have a little more than the first half of act 1 done and we've been doing runs. ... okay... so we don't have our librettos yet so we haven't worked on the harmonies for the music... but we've been dancing it and doing not so horribly. So YAY US! :)

other than that I've been running front of house for Suzanne's company, Yellow Taxi. They've been doing the show Tuesdays with Morrie, which is a very interesting story as well based on the book by Mitch Albom. (He also wrote the Five People You meet In Heaven which is an amazing book... Some of the writting I would have done differently, but he was effective, which I think is the point. Either way, the play was good. i got to see it for free like last friday or something. :) It was sad, but good. The guy playing Morrie was absolutely amazing. I was so impressed!! He was in another show that I saw at YTP last semester and I totally didn't realize that it was him. He had the ability to completely transform himself and become an entirely different person. it was amazing. My favorite scene had to be when Mitch brought Morrie a dish of egg salad, his favorite lunch. Morrie is in the middle stages of Lou Gehrig's desease right now, so his motor skills are going and he doesn't have the strength to do just about anything. He was trying his hardest to scoop out a single spoonful of egg salad and he just couldn't. my heart broke just watching him struggle.

Anyway... enough about Morrie. ... Once on This Island is proving to be one of the best OBP has done, in my humble opinion. :) We're only a week in and we're already so ahead of schedule and doing a good job. I'm looking forward to seeing this complete. :) It's going to be a nice cherry on the cake that is this year with OBP. :) I totally needed a good OBP season. I wanted to do my best as president and while I know people tell me i'm doing fine, i never seem to feel like I do enough. Maybe that's why i go crazy. NO MORE CRAZINESS! :)

PS- i watched my Ewan McGregor movie with Hugh Jackman that i bought before coming back to school that I never had a chance to watch on friday night. Wow. i was in love. :) Everyone should go see Deception. Or at least come to my room and we'll watch it together. i'd love another viewing!

Anyway... I should REALLY go to bed. I'm crossing my fingers for a snow day (all the public schools in the surrounding area are shut down for tomorrow, so I'm going to think it's a maybe. :)). Mom told me that if you do a dance in your pjs and then turn them inside out before you go to bed that it'll snow. :) I'm very tempted.

Ever have those days where you get up and think, 'Yeah, i should put that sweatshirt on that is hanging up on the back of my door. And then promptly you entirely forget about it... and then when you get to work you're like... dude... other than that, things are good. Lab today. That's icky. My back is still out of commission, but it's getting a lot better. (I was walking back from work on monday and my back just seized up... like a charlie horse... and it's pretty much been ouchie every since. I've been icing it and so far it's getting there. still kinda tight. I hope it gets better before rehearsal on monday. Apparently we're supposed to be dancing. Rut-roh.

I also lost Sally's ice pack last night. I've been using it for my back and I went to bed with it last night like I have been doing... but I woke up and it wasn't in bed with me. 1. Bonanza- This is a very dear subject, though it makes me wierd cause I like old TV. but it helped me through the end of high school and the beginning of college (the first time around...) It's also what really helped me work on my writing. Some of my best stories have been bonanza fics
2. Ewan (♥)- :) Ewan McGregor, what?! I think that not only is he one of greates talents of modern drama because he so fully takes on small things to make each character his own... but I think he's such a nice guy and a family man. You should see him with his wife! :)

How you doin'? thoughtful

I did a whole lot of nothing last night... and all this weekend, actually. I had fun sitting in front of my computer playing around.

But I got out that story that I've been working on and I started typing. Acutally got some quality paragraphs in. :) I was pretty proud of myself.

But last night I SO needed to go to bed. I got my sheets all settled and I shoved my laundry next to my closet because I washed it but neglected to put away cause I truthfully forgot about it. I even spritzed my pillow with that milk and honey stress relief spray that Emily got me for Christmas and I setted down for a nice, Loooooong sleep. ... well... as long as you can sleep before you have to get up to be showered, dressed and out the door to be to work by (*coughalittlelaterthancough!*) 8:30.

Well... A long time ago, when I started writing stories, especially in the beginning when I was writing a lot of Mary Sue characters to learn what to do and develop my craft (I know, I'm partially ashamed as well...), I would sorta tell myself a story about what I wanted to write about next with my characters before bed. It's just something that I never stopped doing, especially when I get really excited about something I'm writing.

WELL. I started thinking about my story. I was placing my character on the front portch and earlier I had trouble describing the outside yard at noontime. (I'm REALLY good at writing sunset. The Purple-gold hues of light, sneeking behind the barn as the sun dips behind the Catskill mountains back home is one of my favorite sights from my own house...) I'll have to post the pictures I took on New Years Eve. But that's something different entirely. :)

ANYWAY. I had been having trouble earlier and I got hung up on a minor detail, so I put it away until bedtime. When I got nestled in my covers I started thinking about it and I thought I came up with something really... substantial... vibrant... just plain good. But I said, "Oh, try to go to bed, you can expand on it." So I tried to think it through just a little bit more and I had a pretty good paragraph in my head.

So I finally got out of bed and went to my computer and opened up my story again. I began to type... but the words wouldn't come out the right way. And even what I was thinking and typing wasn't as good as what had been in my head.

The moral of this story?

Do it while you're thinking of it.

I feel like I've been posting a lot about my writing and how good I think I am. ... and I feel almost bad about it... like I'm being a braggart. I shouldn't think I'm good. It's big headed and rude of me to think so.

Too bad. I'm going to break this habit of being sheepish and cowardly with no backbone. I think I'm good. So. There.

i was writing someone a really nice reivew for a bunch of stories that I read because Erica actually caught me crying while I was reading them, and I sent it off...

but i spelt the name of a story wrong. it was completely an accident, mostly a typo that I didn't double check... I knew better than to send it...

*sigh* hopefully she realizes it was an accident and that I'm not dumb.

I mean... I'm not going to jump in the merrimack or anything over it... I'm just... waaah! over it.

*sigh*

My story that i started almost four years years ago for Book Month is up to 20,000 words. (20,020 actually... i find that funny.

My goal for Book Month was 15,000, which I actually met. ... it was before i became a music major and had no time. So why am I taking this up now? Because I'm CRAZY!

So... the moral of this story is that it took me four years to add 5,000 words.

But I think some of this is actual, quality writing. And i'm right proud of myself.

Anyway... I have to do laundry and read most of Henry IV part one today. And practice for opera... aaaaaaaaannddddd....

Not fool around like I did all yesterday. Yeah...

so, after brunch I'm going to buckle down. i have to put laundry in like WHOA. Then shakespeare... the opera... then check to make sure I don't have any other assignments due. that would be BAD.
